In this West Hartford home, we remodeled two bathroms - one half, one full. We retiled the floor and the tile tub surround, and added a built in shelf in the tub surround. The original tile surround did not extend to the ceiling, and when we installed new tile, we brought it up to the ceiling. This is pleasing to the eye, modern, and also protects the walls from water. We removed wallpaper and wall tile, and replaced it with wainscotting with chair rail trim. We removed and replaced the vanities, toilets, and light fixtures. These newly remodeled bathrooms are reminiscent of the style of the original period of the house, while being modern with sleek finishes and added functionality. The floor tiles look like the original designer of the bathrooms could have chosen them - they're just brand new and sparkling. The subway tile in the shower is modern with a nod to history.
